               Arunachala               

Arunachala

      Arunachala is holy mount in south India, about 180 km southwest from Tamil Nadu capital Chennaj (Madras). There is many legends about Arunachala and is considered to be the spiritual center of the World. By this way is equal to Mount Meru and Mount Kailash in Tibet.
      Arunachala attracted many Indian sages. Last, great one was Sri Ramana Maharishi. He came to hill in the age of 16 and he never left Arunachala till death.
      The hill is considered to be form of most powerful Hindu God Shiva. The legend says, that Shiva took here form of endless column of fire. Brahma and Vishnu were not able to find its end and had to admit Shiva greatest power. Later Shiva changed to the hill. In previous periods it was of gold, in present time of Demon Kali is of granite. The hill still has the power to give the people wisdom and happiness.
      At foothill is greatest temple in south India. Its base is 300 to 500 meters and its towers are up to 70 meters. Every full moon come to hill hundreds of thousands pilgrims to perform 13 km long pilgrimage around the hill. In November is great feast Deepam. This time circle around hill millions of pilgrims.
