             Happy Pongal             

Dear Friends

One of the major holidays in India has started. The solstice is celebrated by the Sun's entry into the constellation of Makara. Thanks to the precession (shifting the Earth's axis), every 70 years this moment shifts by one day, bringing us to January 15th. In Tamil Nadu there is a Pongal four day festival. The first two days are over, the other two are waiting. As always, the streets in front of the houses are decorated with colorful paintings. Families go near the temples of some form of Goddess to cook a festive pongal, which is a national dish.
Today we had a celebration in our Athithi Ashram, everything was carefully decorated. After breakfast, the inhabitants set up to prepare a garland for cows for their tomorrow's holiday. Then a fireplace was created, a brand new clay pot was placed on it, and a sweet pongal was boiled in it. First, rice is cooked when it softens, women expertly grains in my fingers and determines when milk and jagiri are added, which is raw cane sugar. When it boils down, cashew nuts and raisins are added to the ghee.
Meanwhile, the altar with Ramana Maharshi is being prepared, with Swami making the first ceremony. Then the pongal is done, placed on the sun under a cane tripod. I will make a ceremony for the chief celebrator - the Sun. Then the ceremony ends at Sri Ramana again, and that is the moment for prasadam, the blessing of just pongal. Free fun and flower garland production begin under a graceful look of Sri Ramana.

So have a nice time, expect the return of the Sun God to our regions. And in the meantime, you can also cook a pot of good Pongal porridge.
