    Maha Shiva Ratri 2016    

Dear friends

One of the most important Indian holidays took a place here under the Holy Hill Arunachala. In is Maha Shiva Ratri, Great Shiva Night. There was less fire and picture decoration this year, because in the Big Temple are reconstruction works and everywhere is bamboo scaffolding, which is highly inflammable. But I found two Shiva mandalas on the way around the Hill, All Shiva temples was open all night and celebrations and offerings was held all the time. Next two pictures are from The Big Temple at midnight.
Worshipping of Lingobhava, Shiva in the form of Lingam - column was around midnight, it was remembering of creating of this Universe by the book Shiva Purana.
There was processions with the Kali, the Goddess of death today, many young men sow lemons on their skin and followed Kali with her demons
